2026 Oxbow Christmas Bird Count

2026 Oxbow Christmas Bird Count

There will be no regular Oxbow field trip in December, but you can get your monthly Oxbow fix by joining count compiler Jack Stenger for the annual Oxbow Christmas Bird Count! This citizen-science event surveys winter bird populations within a 15-mile-diameter circle that includes the Oxbow, Shawnee Lookout Park, parts of northern Kentucky, and most of Dearborn County, Indiana.

Birders of all skill levels are welcome, and participation is free! You can count birds in your preferred area, participate for a few hours or the full day, or count birds at your feeders if you live within the count circle. The data collected contributes to a historical database used for bird-related research and conservation.

If you plan to participate, please contact Jack to coordinate meeting details and help with planning and coverage at jackstenger@gmail.com
