38th Oxbow Birdathon 2024
5 PM Friday May 10th to 5PM Saturday May 11th
Birdathon is always scheduled on the Saturday before Mother’s Day (the second Saturday in May), so this year’s event will be held on Friday and Saturday May 10th and 11th. The Birdathon begins at 5:00 p.m. sharp on Friday and ends at 5:00 p.m. sharp on Saturday. At that time the Birdathon Tally and Party begins. Plenty of cold drinks, pizza and other food are provided before the Grand Tally begins and our combined bird sightings are revealed. This year's Birdathon Tally will be held at the Fernald Preserve Visitors Center. The Fernald Preserve entrance is located at 7400 Willey Road, about half a mile west of State Route 128, in Crosley Township in Northwestern Hamilton County (Map and directions at https://www.lm.doe.gov/Fernald/Visitors_Center/Directions.pdf). There is ample parking and it is centrally located to many of the best birding sites (including Fernald itself) on the west side of town.
Oxbow of Indiana wants as many birdwatchers as possible to participate in the Birdathon.
While there is a basic competition for the most species seen in the Birdathon area for 24 hours, there are other ways to compete. Here are some possible competition categories:
The only cost is a $5.00 per person registration fee for pizza, snacks, drinks and other goodies at the Tally party. There is no fee to participate in the Birdathon, only if you plan to join us at the Tally Party.
Register as a team or an individual participant for the Oxbow Birdathon by using the Registration Form. Please send your completed registration form with payment back to Oxbow, Inc., P. O. Box 4172, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025 as early as possible. (please make checks payable to Oxbow of Indiana, Inc.)
